Gary & Gregory;

Ours is a 1912 bungalow in a fairly close-in neighborhood with a lot of modern updates. Two main floors, with huge master suite upstairs with two closets (one containing books and satellite TV) and a queen-size bed. Five windows behind the bed get southern sun. A/C unit. Large master bathroom with round, deep Jacuzzi tub with open able skylight, separate shower with closed skylight, and a private deck. Downstairs is a nice living room with large picture window, eat-in kitchen, gas stove, washer/dryer, and dishwasher. One regular-sized bedroom on this floor and a smaller, office-style bedroom with extra-long single bed. Another bathroom on this floor with glass block and a window. Backyard is being landscaped, and there's a large nice deck and pergola above for relaxing outside.

We're located in a wonderful neighborhood near Reed College, between Hawthorne and Woodstock. One short block from Trader Joe's, Walgreen's, a great produce store, Starbucks. Close to public transportation; the bus takes about 20 minutes to get to downtown, or 10 minutes to bohemian Hawthorne district. Or you can walk in this extremely pedestrian-friendly city. We have a tenant in our basement apt. We travel as a couple (together 30+ years) with our best friend, Jesse.

Portland's gay scene is very non-ghettoized; we're everywhere! We have a good biweekly gay newspaper called Just Out (which I write for). Our comprehensive domestic partnership bill kicks in in 2008.

Pacific Ocean is 1.5 hours away (through very scenic hills); stunning Columbia Gorge complete with waterfalls is 1/2 hour from here. Mountains close by too. Portland sits on two rivers, the Willamette and the mighty Columbia, which separates us from Washington State (only a few miles away). We're three hours to Seattle, five hours to Vancouver, British Columbia. Portland's restaurant and club scene are unsurpassed, and the downtown, unlike in many cities, is very lively. We now have trolleys, a tram, and Portland's famous light rail train, the MAX. Come check out this city on the move!

We're looking for an exchange for 1-4 weeks anywhere in close-in metro New York or San Francisco, including Berkeley, preferably walk able to BART. Our dates are very flexible, as Greg's a realtor, I (Gary) am a freelance writer and editor (and publisher of the online film magazine Bright Lights, http://www.brightlightsfilm.com), and Jesse (our good friend) is a massage therapist. We're both very nice, relaxed, low-maintenance guys. Thanks for looking!

Monica;

This is a handicap-accessible 1 bedroom apartment, fully furnished, that is attached as an accessory unit to our home. It is located on 3 acres, mostly wooded. Guests have a private deck overlooking the River, and use of our floating dock, canoe, and inner tubes ... or bring your own kayak (no white water on the Tualatin, however). Lots of opportunity for wildlife viewing (birds, otter, beaver, fish). A computer (and printer) is available, if requested, on our wireless home network. A 36 inch TV is in the living room, and a 14" TV is in the bedroom. Service is by satellite. A rollaway bed (or beds) could be rented for the living room, if more than 2 people need to be accommodated.

We are located in a suburb about 11 miles south of downtown Portland. It is easily accessible by car, air, or train. Our home is located within a block of an asphalt running/walking/biking path along the Tualatin River. A boat ramp for motor boats is located 1 mile south at Cook Park and 1 mile north at the HWY 99 bridge. However, the Tualatin River is a 'no wake' zone in the vicinity of our home, and best suited to kayakers and canoeists.
